Owned by Mathew (Mac) F. Ambrose. Also called "Mac's Cafe", "Mac's Tavern", and "Mac's Gym". Originally on M Street, it moved in 1942 to 1833 Tulare Street, where the gambling spot "Hank's Tavern" had been. Around 1946, it moved to its final location at 1035 G Street (see "Archive").

T. R. King records indicate that the "MAC" chips were were originally used from 1939 to circa 1941 at "Mac's Cards & Pool Hall" (2943 Adams Ave., San Diego) and later used at the "Ambrose Brothers Tavern" (1021 Broadway, Fresno) which Mac co-owned with his brothers, Norman, Robert, and Angelo Ambrose.
