Thelma “Kay” Maceo started out her career as a talented beauty and part of a dance duet called “Ginger and Kay” (she was Kay). Her talents and charm earned her the Miss Houston crown in 1936 and a ticket to the Miss Texas pageant in Galveston, Texas. It was here that Kay caught the eye of one of the judges, Victor A. “Gigolo” Maceo, a gambling club owner and nephew to the godfather Maceo brothers. After a whirlwind romance, the couple was married and started a family. Kay, like many of the Maceo wives, loved to gamble. While the men were out taking care of business, Kay and the girls would bring out their own chips and have some fun of their own. |
